With his work "Casting Jesus" Christian Jankowski won the Videonale Prize of the KfW Stiftung 2013.
Christian Jankowski’s videos, films, photographs and installation cast a critical but humorous light on the relationship between artists, art institutions, the media and society.
On that evening Videonale e.V. will show Jankowski’s work “Der Wille des Kurators” (The Will of the Curator), which combines three individual works from the years 2008-2010 ("The perfect gallery", 2010; "Tableau Vivant", 2010; "Dienstbesprechung", 2008). In all three films the role of the curator governs the development and outcome of events. He is able to intervene in the project at all times, he can boycott it but also take part enthusiastically and make a contribution. Any kind of action is information which becomes part of Jankowski’s work. The (good) will of the curator to participate in the creation of a work of art has been and indeed is the driving force behind many of Jankowski’s films.
Following the screening there will be a talk with Christian Jankowski.

The exhibition URBAN STAGE – Gudrun Kemsa

Gudrun Kemsa (born 1961) is considered one of the foremost German contemporary photo and video artists. In her photographic works and video installations she examines the depiction of space, time and motion. She explores public, predominantly urban outdoor spaces like, for example, streets, esplanades, squares and parks. The images were taken in metropolises including Paris, New York, Rotterdam, Berlin and Dubai. Some of the locations can be identified easily, others appear timeless and interchangeable.
