Interview:

► 1. Your work has been chosen among over 2000 festival entries to participate in VIDEONALE.14. In which context do you prefer to present your work, festival/cinema context or exhibition? And what kind of difference does the respective mode of presentation mean for you / your work?

For VIDEONALE.14 we are presenting, 'A short film about war', a work best suited to a black box gallery space.  It's a two-channel installation that rides a line between the language of cinema and the language of data visualisation, and we want viewers to be aware of this as they watch this documentary artwork.

When screened in a cinema, the data visualisation element of the work can be co-opted by the cinematic context more readily than in a gallery -it's a small point but at the heart of the work, which asks us to consider how information and stories are distorted as they are mediated through different modes of communication. There's an essay by Lisa leFeuvre that expands on this called, 'Double culpability/double subjectivity' and it's available online at animateprojects.org

► 2. Art can be seen as a mirror that registers and reflects life or as a tool that transforms it. Is there a particular theme, concept or problem your art addresses the
most?

'A short film about war' is the second documentary artwork in our 'Flat Earth Trilogy' which takes a look at how the worldwide web has transformed our perception of the world around us -both extending our personal spheres of influence but also shifting our relationships with traditional power structures be they political, cultural or economic.  We don't want to make work that is prescriptive but we do hope it can help people to engage critically with some of these ideas that engage us.

► 3. In which way is the video medium an excellent possibility to express your intended subjects, especially in contrast to other media you use? Or do you work exclusively with video?

Video is not a precious medium and that for us is its strength. Since becoming an online digital format in the 1990s it has also become ubiquitous, and it is this ocean of ubiquity that we have been exploring in other video works like, 'Several interruptions', 'Belief' and our most recent work, 'October', which looks at the spontaneous explosion of the global Occupy movement at the end of 2011.

► 4. If you have the chance to ask the visitors of the VIDEONALE.14 exhibition questions about your own work, what would be your question?

We'd rather ask the visitors about what they do!
